The 5-Second Website Trust Test (and How to Pass It)

Most visitors don’t “read” your website. They scan. In the first few seconds, they make a fast judgement:

If the answer is “not sure”, they bounce. Not because your service is bad, because your website didn’t pass the trust test.

Here’s a simple test you can run in under 5 seconds (plus the quick fixes that usually move conversions up).

How to run the 5-second trust test

  1. Open your homepage (or main landing page).
  2. Look for 5 seconds only.
  3. Close it.
  4. Answer these 5 questions from memory.

  3. Why should I trust them?
  4. What should I do next?

4) Mobile-first feel

Most people will judge your website on a phone. Common trust-killers:

5) Visual hierarchy (premium spacing)

Premium doesn’t mean fancy. It means:

Quick fixes that usually boost trust (fast)
